On October 28, 2024, Chinese Ambassador to Syria Shi Hongwei paid courtesy call on Syrian new Minister of Local Administration and Environment Luai Harita and exchanged views on strengthening bilateral cooperation and other issues.

Shi Hongwei says that China has always attached great importance to developing friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries. Last year, President Xi Jinping held a historic meeting with President Bashar al-Assad, which promoted bilateral relations to a new level. The two sides have become like-minded good friends and partners in building a community with a shared future for mankind. China is willing to strengthen cooperation with the new cabinet to provide more support for Syria's development and reconstruction, and promote greater development of the China-Syria strategic partnership.

Harita expresses sincerely thanks to China for its long-term selfless help to Syria, highly praised China's great achievements in urban construction, e-government and other fields, and says that Syria is currently focusing on improving local autonomous development capabilities, and hopes to strengthen exchanges with China under the framework of the Global Development Initiative to promote the construction of both countries and benefit the people of the two sides.
