On November 6, 2024, Chinese Ambassador to Syria Shi Hongwei paid courtesy call on Syrian new Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mohamed Karaj and exchanged views on strengthening economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

Shi Hongwei says that China-Syria friendship has a long history, and economic and trade cooperation is an important part of bilateral relations. The historic meeting between the two heads of state last year opened a new chapter for expanding practical cooperation between the two countries. China supports Syria in accelerating development and reconstruction, calls for the immediate lifting of illegal unilateral sanctions against Syria, and is willing to work with Syria to strengthen the connection between the "Belt and Road" initiative and Syria's development strategy, expand cooperation in the field human resources training , and benefit the people of the two sides.
