On November 7, 2024, Chinese Ambassador to Syria Shi Hongwei met with Syrian Interior Minister Mohammed Rahmon to exchange views on bilateral relations. Shi Hongwei said that in recent years, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Bashar Al-Assad, China and Syria have worked together to respond to various security challenges and respect each other's core interests and major concerns. China supports Syria in combating violent terrorist forces and maintaining national security and stability, and thanks Syria for actively protecting the security interests of Chinese citizens and institutions in Syria, and is willing to work with Syria to implement the Global Security Initiative, and to continuously strengthen the coorperation in the field of law enforcement and security, and jointly safeguard the security and development interests of the two countries. Rahmon said that Syria abides by the one-China principle, firmly supports China's position on issues related to Xinjiang and human rights, and attaches great importance to protecting the safety of Chinese citizens and institutions in Syria. Facing the complex and severe regional and international public security situation, Syria is willing to strengthen policy exchange and to take coordinated actions with China, to jointly respond to challenges such as terrorism, cyber security, and transnational crime. |
