On November 17, 2024, Chinese Ambassador to Syria Shi Hongwei paid courtesy call on Syrian new Minister of Water Resources Qahtani and exchanged in-depth views on strengthening practical cooperation between the two countries.

Shi Hongwei says that China and Syria have traditional friendship. In recent years, the political mutual trust between the two sides has been increasingly consolidated, and practical cooperation in various fields has been steadily enhanced. China is willing to take the important consensus made by the two heads of state last year as a guide, and actively participate in Syria's development and reconstruction under the framework of the "Belt and Road" initiative and the Global Development Initiative, and explore cooperation in water resources protection and utilization, to better benefit the people of the two sides.

Qahtani says that Syria attaches great importance to developing relations with China and expresses sincerely thanks to China for its selfless support for Syria's development and reconstruction.
