On July 14, 2026, Ambassador Shi Hongwei met with Abdulsalam Haikal, Minister of Communications of the Syrian Transitional Government, to exchange views on strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the field of information and communication technology.

H.E. Shi Hongwei stated that China and Syria enjoy a traditional friendship, and the two countries maintain good cooperation in the field of communications. China is willing to share the opportunities of digital economic development with Syria, continue to advance communication equipment assistance projects, promote personnel exchanges, strengthen the reserve of scientific and technological talent, and contribute to Syria's social development and improvement of people's livelihoods.

H.E. Haikal thanked China for its long-term selfless assistance to Syria, noting that China's information technology is advanced and the prospects for cooperation between the two countries in the field of communications are broad. He welcomed Chinese enterprises to actively participate in Syria's telecommunications infrastructure construction and looked forward to China providing greater support to Syria in areas such as personnel training, so as to promote more fruitful cooperation between the two countries in the field of communications.
