On April 6, 2026, Chinese Ambassador to Syria Shi Hongwei met with Khaled Al-Khalaf, Director General of the Unified Organization for News and Printing, and Nour al-Din Ismail, Editor-in-Chief of newspaper Al-Thawra, and introduced the five-point initiative of China and Pakistan on restoring peace and stability in the Gulf and the Middle East.

Ambassador Shi stated that the war involving Iran has caused severe repercussions for Middle Eastern countries, including Syria, and for the international community. China has always upheld an objective and impartial position and opposed the resort to force in international relations. The core elements of the China-Pakistan five-point initiative—"ceasefire, dialogue, and guarantees"—are aimed at building broad consensus for ending the fighting and promoting peace, and at contributing to the restoration of regional peace and stability and the security of shipping lanes and energy supply.

The heads of major Syrian media outlets spoke highly of the China-Pakistan five-point initiative, commended China's diplomacy as a responsible major power, and expressed the hope that China would play a greater role in achieving a ceasefire and ending the fighting.
