On May 7, 2026, Chinese Ambassador to Syria Shi Hongwei held a symposium with Syrian business leaders.

Ambassador Shi Hongwei actively briefed the participants on the achievements of Chinese modernization and the China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, stating that China-Syria friendship has a long history and that economic and trade cooperation is an important component of bilateral relations. He welcomed the Syrian side's participation in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and noted that China stands ready to actively consider participating in Syria's economic reconstruction and contributing to Syria's social development and the improvement of people's livelihoods.

The Syrian business leaders spoke highly of the achievements of Chinese modernization, thanked the Chinese side for the selfless assistance it has provided to the Syrian people over the years, and expressed the hope to expand trade with China and strengthen cooperation and exchanges.
