On June 23, 2026, Chinese Ambassador to Syria Shi Hongwei met with Khaled Zaarour, the new Information Minister of the Syrian transitional government, and exchanged views on bilateral relations and media cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Shi highlighted the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the achievements of Chinese modernization, introduced the main contents of the white paper "More Just and Equitable Global Governance: China's Principles, Proposals and Actions", and elaborated on China's vision, initiatives and practical actions regarding global governance. He noted the long-standing friendship between China and Syria, and stated that China stands ready to work with Syria to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the media field, jointly tell the stories of the friendship between the two countries, and play an active role in promoting mutual understanding and affinity between the two peoples.

Zaarour spoke highly of the remarkable achievements made by the Communist Party of China over the 105 years since its founding, and commended the Global Governance Initiative proposed by general secretary of CPC Xi Jinping. He stated that the Syrian side hopes to draw on China's development experience, strengthen practical cooperation between the two countries in the media and other fields, and deepen friendship between the two peoples.
