On July 14, 2026, Chinese Ambassador to Syria Shi Hongwei met with Abdul Salam Haykal, Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Syrian Transitional Government, and exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the field of information and communications technology.

Shi Hongwei stated that China and Syria enjoy traditional friendship and have maintained good cooperation in the field of communications. China stands ready to share the opportunities presented by digital economy development with the Syrian side, continue advancing the communication equipment assistance projects, promote mutual visits and exchanges of personnel, strengthen the pool of scientific and technological talent, and contribute to Syria's social development and the improvement of people's livelihoods.

Haykal thanked the Chinese side for its selfless assistance to Syria over the years, and stated that China possesses advanced information technology and that cooperation between the two countries in the field of communications holds broad prospects. He welcomed the active participation of Chinese enterprises in the construction of Syria's telecommunications infrastructure, and expressed the hope that the Chinese side would provide greater support to Syria in personnel training and other fields, so as to achieve further results in bilateral communications cooperation.
