On July 26, 2026, Chinese Ambassador to Syria Shi Hongwei met with Mohammad al-Bashir, Minister of Energy of the Syrian Transitional Government, and exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy.

Shi Hongwei stated that China-Syria friendship has grown ever stronger over time, and that the two countries have maintained good cooperation in various fields. At present, Syria is vigorously advancing economic development and national reconstruction. China stands ready to provide assistance within its capacity for Syria's post-war economic and social development and the improvement of people's livelihoods, strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Syrian side, and bring greater benefits to the peoples of both countries.

Al-Bashir thanked the Chinese side for its selfless support to the Syrian people over the years, and stated that the Syrian side is willing to actively participate in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, looks forward to continuing to receive China's assistance, and hopes to learn China's advanced technologies and valuable experience, so as to achieve new results in the cooperation between the two countries.
