On July 28, 2026, Chinese Ambassador to Syria Shi Hongwei met with Nidal al-Shaar, Minister of Economy and Industry of the Syrian Transitional Government, and exchanged views on strengthening economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

Shi Hongwei stated that China-Syria friendship has a long history and that economic and trade cooperation is an important component of bilateral relations. China stands ready to maintain close coordination with the Syrian side, strengthen the alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative with Syria's development strategy, expand personnel exchanges, deepen cooperation in human resources training, and support Syria's industrial manufacturing, so as to promote greater development of bilateral relations.

Al-Shaar stated that Syria is committed to national reconstruction and has always regarded China as an important partner for economic development and reconstruction. The Syrian side highly commends China's economic and social development achievements in recent years, and is willing to learn from China's development experience and advanced industrial technologies, expand practical economic and trade cooperation between Syria and China, and continuously enrich the substance of the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.
